The lawmakers in the Lower House of the Parliament – Wolesi Jirga approved Khalillah Sediq’s appointment as the governor of Central Bank of Afghanistan – Da Afghanistan Bank.
Sediq received 100 confidence votes and 75 votes of disapproval from 193 lawmakers present during Wednesday’s session of the parliament.
Each candidate was supposed to receive 93 votes of confidence in a bid to be confirmed by the Lower House by obtaining 50+1 percent of the total votes.
Sediq has served in the banking sector during the past 30 years and has experience both in Central Bank and Commercial banking in Afghanistan and United States.
He was serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan International Bank since 2006.
The second Afghan Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish introduced Sediq to the Lower House of the Parliament along with Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai as defense minister-designate and and two nominees for the Supreme Court which included Anisa Rassouli and Sayed Yousuf Halim.
